From C&D: Genesis has finally released pricing for the 2019 G70 sports sedan, and it takes direct aim at the BMW 3-series. The lowest rung on the G70 ladder, the 252-hp 2.0T Advanced, costs $35,895. That’s $5350 less than its most obvious competitor, BMW’s 248-hp four-cylinder 330i. BMW also sells a 320i that exactly matches the base G70 2.0T’s price, but with only 180 horsepower and fewer standard features, it isn’t a fair comparison. The cheapest way to get into a V-6–powered G70 is the 365-hp 3.3T Advanced, which starts at $44,745—$5200 less than BMW’s 320-hp six-cylinder 340i.
The G70 2.0T comes in six different trims: Advanced, Elite, Prestige, Dynamic, Sport, and Sport M/T. The automatic-transmission-equipped Sport, at $45,895, is the priciest and includes nappa leather seats and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires. But even the base 2.0T Advanced is well equipped, coming with power front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, an 8.0-inch infotainment screen, and a suite of active-safety features. Climbing up the trim-level ladder nets you features like a head-up display, a sunroof, navigation, and leather upholstery.
The $38,895 Sport M/T is a different proposition from the high-end, automatic-only Sport in that—did you guess it?—a six-speed manual is its sole transmission option. Every other G70 is equipped with an eight-speed automatic, full stop. The manual Sport builds off the 2.0T Advanced model, adding enthusiast-oriented features such as a limited-slip differential, Brembo brakes, those Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, and a sport exhaust as well as niceties including heated and ventilated front seats and a 15-speaker Lexicon audio system.
In addition to its twin-turbo V-6, the 3.3T Advanced gets the Brembo brakes and limited-slip diff from the 2.0T Sport models, along with leather seats, full-LED headlights, and navigation, among other features from the higher-end 2.0Ts. At $50,495, the 3.3T Sport is the most expensive of the four V-6 trims (Advanced, Elite, Prestige, and Sport) and the only one to get adaptive dampers, as well as the 2.0T Sport models’ copper headlight accents, dark-chrome exterior trim, and 19-inch wheels with Michelin summer tires.
On all 2.0T and 3.3T models—except the manual-transmission 2.0T—all-wheel drive is a $2000 option. And as this is a Genesis, there are no options to choose from aside from color. At launch, there will be two different special-edition G70s: the $49,745 3.3T Design and the $51,745 3.3T Dynamic. The former builds off the Prestige trim and gets a unique Black Forest Green exterior, cream nappa leather seats, and dark-green leather trim on the door cards and instrument panel, while the latter is based on the Sport and adds performance brake pads, an upgraded cooling system, and specific tuning for the suspension. Just 400 of each special editions will be built, with all of them to be built in the first year of production. The 2019 G70 hits dealerships in the United States this week.- Emphasis mine. I have been mailing dealership and corporate and I haven’t heard a whisper. Genuinely curious which dealership in what states are starting to sell them even.

Waiting for the configurator to go up so that I can start playing with it. Also, just got this email from the local dealer :
“Thanks for your interest in the 2019 G70. Unfortunately, as of this moment, we do not have an ETA. We have not even gotten a pricing breakdown. We normally would receive information a couple of months before the release of a new model year or a new line of vehicle. Please check back in mid Nov to see if we have any information.”
So it goes on sale this week, except it doesn’t?

Doesn’t sound like there will be much to play with on the configurator though, TBH.
And it seems to me that pricing usually comes out more than a week before they go on sale. Maybe they’re just shipping from the factory now and it’ll be another 6 weeks?
This isn’t *quite* dragging on like the Supra or NSX, but come on...

This is the Genesis take on the same platform as the Kia Stinger, right?
I really like it; not as brash as the Stinger (which I like) but has a more restrained styling. The angle in the photo above looks quite nice.

I'm intrigued by this car. My personal favorite in this class is the Guilia and this under cuts its by a couple grand. That's some very aggressive base pricing. I'm looking forward to playing around with the configurator.

Honestly, the whole Genesis line hits it out of the park for me. They’re good examples of how a big grille can be done in a way that doesn’t look hideous and works well with the rest of the car.

Same platform engine transmission but about 6 inches shorter around 300lb lighter and better tuned suspension. From what I have read and seen can hang in there with the best.

I have heard great things about the Giulia but at the end of the day it’s an Alfa and it’s an emotional purchase for those who can afford the time and money for alfa ownsrship.
I like this because this is the Q50 that Infiniti should have built, and I am glad Genesis hit this one out of the park.

Only 40% in 5 years? I don’t believe it will be that little.

Based on the forums, Genesis sedans generally have a 50% residual afte 3 years. so Genesis themselves think they’re worth only half of msrp after 3, so I made a rough estimate of 40% of MsRP after 5.

Heated AND Ventil ated seats?! I don’t understand why more cars don’t have ventilated seats as an option. I love not having a sweaty back just because I chose to drive a car for 5 minutes.

I love ventilated seats. Even mainstream Kias Hyundais and Mazdas are offering them but some manufacturers are still holding back.

I want a Giulia, but I want it to have been assembled by Mercedes or Toyota. I just can’t will myself to pull the trigger on FCA quality.*
*Note that I’m the proud owner of an Audi with two outstanding recalls.

I hadn’t really thought of that before, but this is really the car Infiniti should’ve built to replace the G37. I always liked the G37, but the Q50 does nothing for me. This seems more in the spirit of the G35/37 line.
The MT model is really intriguing. It’s just one trim (because they know they won’t sell many), but i nstead of relegating it to a base model, they seem to have put together a pretty compelling package. This is what enthusiasts have been begging for - give us a manual transmission RWD car but make it available on a trim that actually has the options we want. It reminds me a lot of the old 3-series ZHP package and also the 6MT Sport trim on the Accord . If nobody buys this, the manual transmission truly is doomed.
I can’t wait to drive one. There is one Genesis dealer in New Mexico down in Albuquerque about 2 hours from me. Their entire inventory is listed as 2 G90s right now, so chances of them getting a G70 with a manual seem... months away if ever.

I drive a G37 and I used to love Infiniti till about 2012 or so. Then they stopped upgrading their lineup and the Q50 was a total dud. I hate what Infiniti has become now . Sure their crossovers sell decently, but the cars are not the “Japanese BMW of 2000s” any more especially with their disastrous Direct Adaptive Steer by wire system , even with the new turbo engines. Hopefully competition like the Genesis and others makes them do something drastic to t heir car lineup.
Let’s see what the take rate on the MT is and if dealers even stock them in the first place. I have an unea sy feeling they might discontinue it after 2 years citing low sales. It seems to be an excellent car

I used to be an Infiniti guy myself until they lost their sporting identity. That might be part of the reason I'm so intrigued by this car!
